Administrative/Biographical History
A S Cairns & Rawson Ltd were beer and cider bottlers, and aerated water manufacturers in Edinburgh, Scotland. Little is known regarding the founders of the company, other than at the beginning of the 1900s Alex Cairns & Son were wholesale wine and spirit merchants operating in Leith, Scotland, and Harry Rawson worked for James Robertson & Co, who were aerated water manufacturers.
In 1944 Alex Cairns & Son became a limited company in order to acquire the business of A S Cairns & Rawson
and once in business they supplied large hotels and restaurants in Edinburgh. They were also responsible for producing St Ronan’s lemonade. A year or two after this it appears the company became a subsidiary of James Calder & Co (Brewers) Ltd of Alloa, Scotland. In or around 1956 the company moved its operations to Bankhead Medway, Sighthill, Edinburgh, where James Calder & Co (Brewers) Ltd had opened a new bottling plant. But in 1967 the company went into voluntary liquidation.
