Biographical History: Born: Carlisle, 1918. Educated: Armstrong College of Durham University; and Glasgow University. Qualifications: BSc, 1938; MSc, 1941;and PhD, 1949. Demonstrator at Armstrong College, 1938-45; lecturer at Glasgow University, 1945-48; Physicist, Western Infirmary, Glasgow, 1948-53; Director of Western Regional Hospital Board's Clinical Physics Department [later Department of Clinical Physics and Bio-engineering], 1953-83. Chair of the Joint Committee for National Certificates in Applied Physics and later the Scottish Technical Education Council. Science Correspondent of the Glasgow Herald. Pioneer in the application of neutron activation analysis. Died: Glasgow 1993. OBE.
