Administrative/Biographical History

David Paton Cuthbertson was born in Kilmarnock in 1900 and educated at the University of Glasgow. He gained the qualifications BSc in 1921; MB ChB in 1926; DSc in 1931; and MD in 1937. Cuthbertson became a clinical biochemist at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary from 1926-1934 and then a lecturer in physiological chemistry at the University of Glasgow between 1934–1945. Cuthbertson was then the Director of the Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen from 1945–1965. He retired 1965 to Troon but remained senior research fellow at Glasgow Royal Infirmary between 1965–1989. Cuthbertson was awarded a CBE in 1957 and was then knighted in 1965. He died in 1989.
