CONTEXT
Administrative History: The Western Regional Hospital Board established the Department in 1953. The new name was adopted in 1974 when the the Department became a joint service of the West of Scotland Health Boards. For a time it was the largest clinical physics department in Britain. The bulk of its staff were based in hospitals but the department provided them with technical support, a unified management structure and enhanced promotion prospects. During the reorganisation which took place in 1992-93 it proved impossible to maintain a unified service in an area with so many autonomous trusts. The department was disbanded, with the professor of clinical physics and the largest single part of the staff transferring to the Western Infirmary, Glasgow.
Custodial History: Bulk of records held within National Health Service prior to transfer. Some items were in custody of Professor John Lenihan at the time of his death.
Immediate Source Of Acquisition: Department of Clinical Physics and Bio Engineering and Mrs Nancy Lenihan. |
