Administrative/Biographical History

Hozier House, situated at Lanark, opened in 1893. It served the Western Infirmary, Glasgow and was the first convalescent home attached to a voluntary hospital in Glasgow. In 1948 responsibility for Hozier House Convalescent Home passed to the Board of Management for Glasgow Western Hospitals which remained responsible for the Home until 1974. In 1974 the Home had a maximum capacity of 30 convalescent patients. After 1974 the records of the NHS in Glasgow contain no further reference to the Home: it is assumed that responsibility passed to Lanarkshire Health Board during the reorganisation of the NHS that took place at that time.
