Administrative/Biographical History

Norman Roy Grist was born in Doncaster, Yorkshire in 1918. He was educated at Shawlands Academy, Glasgow, and then the University of Glasgow, Scotland. He gained the qualifications BSc, 1939 and MB, ChB, 1942. He became a Lecturer at the University of Glasgow from 1952-1959 and then a Senior Lecturer between 1959-1962. Grist went on to be a Reader in Viral Epidemiology from 1962-1965 and a Professor of Infectious Diseases between 1965-1983 at the same institution. Grist was also Director of Regional Virus Laboratory before retiring in 1983.
