Administrative/Biographical History

The British Medical Ultrasound Society historical collections were inaugurated in 1984, occupying an office and some ancillary storage areas at the Queen Mother’s Hospital, Glasgow. Substantial accessions were received until shortly before the transfer of the collections in 2005–2006.

Papers of noteworthy individuals including:

  • BMUS publications, including early issues of the BMUS Bulletin.
  • Collection of technical, servicing and user manuals relating to many makes and types of ultrasound equipment
  • Collection of vendor literature
  • Douglas Gordon (1909–1997), radiologist
  • Engineering drawings and circuit diagrams from Messrs Kelvin and Hughes and Smiths Industries
  • Ian Donald (1910–1987), pioneer of obstetric ultrasound
  • John Fleming (b1934), research technologist
  • Patricia Morley (1929–2003), pioneer in the clinical application of ultrasound
  • Peter Fish (1946–2003), medical physicist
