Royal Army Medical Corps, India and Far East, 1941–1947. Department of Medicine, Glasgow Royal Infirmary, 1947–1961. Muirhead Chair of Medicine, Glasgow University, 1961–1978. Dean of Medicine, Glasgow University, 1974–1981. Retired, Bothwell, Lanarkshire, 1981. President, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, 1970–1971. CBE, 1978. Died 12th May 2003.
